Avoid steeply banked surfaces (i.e. made for drainage) and you should be able to enjoy getting the kid into running without any issues with your knees.

Go to a specialty running shoe store and have them fit you for the right shoes. Don’t buy trendy trash. Then, start slow and easy, and gradually work up to longer, faster runs. It’s perfectly ok to mix walk/jog. If you can, find wood chip trails or other non-concrete surfaces for your routes
