yeah, it doesnt sound like you need to bother with TLS then
December 2, 2025 at 2:22 PM
the main reason to use TLS on top (and why we offer those convenience features at all) is to make browsers not complain about connections being "insecure" since a browser has no way of knowing if the underlying transport is fine. having unencrypted communication over the tailnet IPs is perfectly ok

i write code for myself and open the source with a permissive license in case it helps others too, i truly do not care if someone thinks my code is bad
December 1, 2025 at 7:11 PM
suffer is the right word, i hope people with this thought process get better and realise that nobody cares and all code is messy
December 1, 2025 at 7:10 PM
ive never really understood the messy code argument, who do they think will judge them?
December 1, 2025 at 7:06 PM
since the latest redesign yeah, every time they make it look fancier it gets worse

the first time I used uv (coming from pip) it was so fast wasn't sure it was even working properly because it did not seem possible that a python package manager could do that. but yet it does do that, and my world is forever changed

yea same as what happened with cf, dns is fine but cdn is mostly dead. i cant even load new blobs on bsky cdn cos that uses it, and wisp.place control plane is intermittently failing too

did you setup split dns or something? or set a global nameserver that doesn't want to query that
November 29, 2025 at 8:33 PM
did you use an oauth secret to auth it maybe? youd need to append ?ephemeral=false to the secret if so. cuz it shouldnt be ephemeral on any version of tsidp unless you made it be
November 29, 2025 at 7:47 PM
why does tsidp reconnecting give it a new ip though? sounds like you arent persisting the state or something? ip should stay static if you dont lose the state dir

dns on synology is weird, we dont override it. you can stick 100.100.100.100 in the dns settings of synology yourself if you want and it will work but dns will be dead on restart until the tailscale app starts which might be annoying
November 29, 2025 at 7:33 PM
i guess it doesn't, went looking and the other blobs are gone too. fascinating
November 29, 2025 at 9:11 AM
does the cdn store forever? i wondered why the profile pic disappeared
November 29, 2025 at 9:07 AM

frickin synapse will be the death of me
November 29, 2025 at 8:45 AM
for both matrix and apub i was of the opinion that if i don't self host then there's no point and i did do that for both but now i maintain so much infra just to keep all these alive. at least pds is tiny unlike masto and synapse
