40+ years of shows like “Cops” have a certain segment of Muricans cheering for heavily armed doughy white guys slapping handcuffs on scared citizens. The Police State was normalized over time for a huge segment of the population.
I am not sure how to reverse that perception, to be honest.

We should all be concerned, because financial crises (touched off by dodgy / opaque financing schemes) affect non-elites far more than elites.
See: credit default swaps, long term capital management, south seas bubble, tulip mania, etc.

I love how Tronald Dump is tempting fate by putting himself (twice, in some designs) on a coin coming out in 2026.
Living US presidents don’t usually get on coins - only exception has been Coolidge.
Put yourself on a coin, kick bucket, everyone says “told you so!”

The officer Sandwich Guy is charged with assaulting testifies that he could feel the impact of the sandwich through his ballistic vest, and it “exploded all over my uniform.” He says he could “smell the onions and the mustard.”

This petition should be addressed to Rogers, not the mayor, but the idea has legs.

Agreed, love them. Heartbreakingly short life expectancy is the only downside. That and the food bill.

Only a few news orgs have the resources + cojones to do this. I think NYT is on that list.

Solution is the same as in Canada, imo: vacancy taxes that encourage use of the property.
And not “$50/month” vacancy taxes a la Toronto, but rising rates that motivate people.

Interesting. “Multi generational problems” as in 30 somethings can’t afford to buy or rent anything?
I think about this in Canada. Who is going to buy the boomers/Gen X inflated housing? Government admits they need that windfall to retire comfortably.

Interesting. Did home prices soar in Portugal, or incomes drop? Bit of both?
I don’t see headlines about Portugal booming, iirc it’s aging like Italy.
