Also: we should not judge anyone by "the standards of their time". We should judge them by actually correct standards, as far as we have gradually found out what those are, and condemn both them and the false, unjust standards that legitimised their wrongs on that basis.

This paternalistically collapses the idea of a victimless act. Is selling motorbikes a non-violent act in this sense? Tens of thousands of people die *every year* by bike overdose (i.e. in speeding accidents for which they are wholly responsible and which often don't involve other people)!
