NFHA’s 2025 Fair Housing Trends Report reveals a sharp increase in discrimination, with 32,000+ fair housing complaints filed in 2024. Despite this, recent HUD firings and federal funding cuts to organizations have weakened fair housing enforcement.

People considered “homeless” in DC are being detained and removed from public spaces. If police think you need mental health treatment, you may be taken to the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP). Know your rights as an involuntary or voluntary patient in this situation.

If you want to know if you have a lawyer or who your lawyer is, call the Public Defender Services at (202) 824-2860. If you have already been committed, call your lawyer.

In 2024, the ERC conducted 868 civil rights tests to identify possible discrimination, helped residents address 165 cases of alleged discrimination, and trained over 3,300 housing professionals.
