Douglas Wetmore Doug Wetmore, a member of the Virginia Board of Director of University of Virginia, showed his full support for the Jewish students on the UVA campus after October 7. He quickly shot down a student referendum that students approved demanding that UVA’s endowment divest corporations doing business in Israel. He declared the vote to be “one of the most shameful things to happen in the history of the university.” Wetmore firmly stated, “Jewish students do not feel safe.” The University had received a total of 19 reports “related to potential antisemitism” from students, faculty and staff. Wetmore also stated said that he received “500 emails” earlier the same day from concerned parents. He took the strong stance to make it clear, “We need to distance ourselves categorically from horrible things like this referendum.”

At a Board of Visitors meeting Friday, Douglas Wetmore, who was appointed to the board by Governor Glenn Youngkin, a Republican, last year, questioned why the university’s Diversity Dashboard does not include an assessment of student or faculty ideologies. “How come we don’t have dashboards that track, for example, the political ideology of the faculty?” asked Wetmore. “Why wouldn’t we do that to try to convince ourselves that we have balance and that we’re serving the full range of needs from our constituents as a leading public university?”

again for everyone insisting—whether out of ignorance or malice almost moot at this point—that this is a “good deal” for UVA: why would you “deal” at all?
As a practical matter, this means that UVA has signed up for more potential investigations and penalties than if it had done nothing at all. And that may have been the point: to tie the hands of the next UVA administration in anticipation of Democrats’ imminent electoral victories. Whatever the reasons, we should see the agreement for what it is: the subjection of a great public state university to federal government control.

On Feb. 20, 2025, Weisenburg bought tickets to Thailand at least partially to enroll in a sailing course to prepare for getting to Gonâve Island. The indictment says once he got to Thailand, he never enrolled due to the cost of the course.

tikvah trains primarily students to be not just hasbarists but outright provocateurs in classrooms & workplaces, and to escalate things as rapidly as possible toward lawsuits. almost without exception every student who's sued for antisemitism (meaning antizionism) & tikvah is on their CV
One of them — $10.4 million to the conservative Jewish educational group Tikvah, for a project aimed at combating antisemitism — was awarded after the scholarly council voted against it, according to five people with direct knowledge of the discussion, who were granted anonymity to discuss confidential matters. The council members said there were questions about the vagueness of the Tikvah application and concern that the project tipped into advocacy, which the agency is supposed to avoid. In a news release announcing the grant, the agency’s acting chair, Michael McDonald, hailed it as an “expansive effort” that would help counter “the sinister and hate-filled attacks on Jewish people that we have been witnessing on American campuses and streets,” which he said were “also attacks on the very foundations that have made the United States the exceptional nation that it is.”

this, incidentally, is the job for which greg brown has been grooming himself for decades, the chance to have completely arbitrary authority over the university to force it to resegregate
The two lawyers most involved on the DOJ side, in turn, were Gregory Brown and Harmeet Dhillon. Both are UVA alums, and Harmeet and I overlapped in Law School, though I do not have a strong memory of her. Gregory Brown worked as a plaintiff’s attorney in Charlottesville prior to joining the Justice Department last winter. He brought several cases against the university while a plaintiff’s attorney and while I was president. I heard along the way that neither of the DOJ lawyers were fans of mine.
