Relapse in psychosis is a term that is used a lot, but what does it mean?

A (fab) DClinPsy trainee I am co-supervising is conducting an online survey to find out people's views and perspectives. Please consider taking part or reposting this study invitation.

We've updated our systematic review of body image in psychosis following some beneficial peer review. Resubmitted!

Preprint updated as well - check it out if you are interested.

Disturbed by this prompt I need to click to read a journal article we published in Journal of Community Psychology with lived experience authors:

"This material is only for use by healthcare professionals. By continuing to view this site you are confirming that you are a healthcare professional."

New publication alert.

It is an interesting (in my opinion!) study trying to understand what happens when people view images they find soothing (and not so soothing!)

It was great to work as an RA on Project Soothe - I miss it dearly.

Excited to hear from my "old boss" Professor Stella Chan @uor-research.bsky.social speak about her brilliant work.

This is the first time I've attended a mental health lecture or engaged with anything to do with youth mental health since becoming a parent - I'm glad I can tune in remotely.

Friend made a mobile for our baby. She designed it so the stars etc could be seen best from point of view of the baby, and not the viewing pleasure of grown ups - which is typical.

Somehow this made me think of health service design. Why do systems often not prioritise what the patient experiences.

Not back at work till late 2025 so won't be thinking of this for a wee while! But was nice to see that the protocol for our study has been published. It's been great to work so closely with a group of folks who've experienced psychosis to design something cool!

My out of office is on till late 2025 because I’ll be pausing my fellowship to care for this tiny human. My partner and I are besotted. A Wee NICU visit and baby ambulance ride making us feel especially grateful for the NHS. Hoping to be home in next few days.

Since there has been another stigmatising program on TV about people who claim social security because they are unwell/disabled, here is a suggestion from someone who took part in our research in 2017. They discussed how the media contributes to the stigmatisation of claimants.

It never ends.

We just had an encouraging revise and resubmit decision (major corrections, but reviewer enthusiasm!) from one of my favourite journals.

This review team had six people with personal experience of psychosis (including me). We've drawn a light on body image issues here.

The wonderful fear of recurrence clinician from Australia who visited our lab this summer just liked this photo I posted of my new housemate on Instagram. I think this means that this spider officially counts as a whopper! For Scotland anyhow.

I’ve updated Psychosis + Unusual Experiences Starter Pack. It has people I’ve learned a lot from over the years. It will still be missing people who should be on there, and is biased toward who I follow.

Additions welcome! Do let me know if you’d like to be removed.

There is power in people with psychosis doing our own research, even with the barriers.

This paper reviewing body image in psychosis (under review) came from a peer chat over coffee. We were shocked it had not been done, so we made it happen with some awesome collaborators.

As a (very) amateur historian of psychiatry, I have spent many hours reading old textbooks from the former "Glasgow Royal Lunatic Asylum". I found this passage. Outdated language aside, I was struck by this observation from a psychiatrist from 1814 and how well it fits with modern models.

Looking forward to reading some of @suzypuss.bsky.social’s book this evening with a cup of tea.
