Nothing is original at the end of the day, especially in music. Jazz as a genre is built off of its standards and riffing off of things other people made. Sampling has been a part of most modern electric music for decades. Melodies have been taken and repurposed for as long as music's been around.

Well, you have that in common with... just about every musician that has ever lived. ;P

Really though, like Patashu said, it really doesn't matter what notes you're using, and, in fact, transcribing other peoples' music is an incredibly helpful tool to learn about the ways a song ticks.
