This cart in the palace reveals the Wizard's real origins as Oscar Diggs from Nebraska (the Wizard also says "O-ma-ha" in "Wizomania" when he's pretending to read from the Grimmerie)

Speaking of which, G(a)linda finds and taps the ruby slippers 3x during "Popular" (a reference to the 1939 film "there's no place like home")

In Wicked (2024), Nessarose wears silver slippers a la Baum's 1900 novel-in the Wicked film, these slippers have a tornado design, alluding to Nessa's demise

This has inadvertently turned into a Wicked (2024/2003)/The (Wonderful) Wizard of Oz (1939/1900) special interest easter egg thread, brought to you by me, the girlie whose childhood obsession with Oz included but DID NOT CULMINATE in me painting a box for my rock collection with Ozma of Oz's face!

Stating the obvious but poor lil Cowardly Lion cub grew up to be cowardly because he was put in a cage and then abandoned in the forest to grow up alone without family (thanks for trying though, Fiyero + Elphaba)

(ps Fiyero doesn't fall asleep from Elphaba's poppy spell in Wicked 2024 nor does the Scarecrow fall asleep in the 1939 movie)

Elphaba + Fiyero putting the lil lion cub in a basket and transporting him via bike is a reference to Miss Almira Gulch stealing Toto on her bike in the 1939 film (Margaret Hamilton played both the Wicked Witch of the West and Miss Gulch)

Being back in Los Angeles for the first time since becoming a (Jewish) cat mother makes me see afresh how this city is rife with unnecessary/iconic possibilities
