Editor, knitter, quilter, reader. Do your fellow humans often disappoint you? Making things helps. In Canberra, Australia, mostly. She/her.
Some just hitched a ride with the colonisers. Hence Australia’s millions of Indian mynah birds.

My 22-year-old and her friends play their vinyl records as an explicit strategy to get off their phones. The kids are alright

Stares, over my Australian copy editor glasses.

My footling breech twins are happy successful 35-year-olds and I didn’t read this article, because I knew I wouldn’t be able to bear it.

I just smile when doctors tell me I should weigh less than I did when I was feeding two fat thriving babies.

Yep, sickest I have ever been. I fully breastfed a set of twins till they were two among my 8 years. Used to dream about being fully hydrated. Fed is best and it’s rarely easy for anyone all the time.

Australian here, and I grew up eating these every day. They also cook down beautifully into what we call stewed apple and you call applesauce — making a beautiful smooth purée with no effort at all. New season Grannies are the queen of apples.

We have compulsory 12% superannuation savings for all workers and it’s not that recent — I’m retired and it came in early in my working life, in 1992. As always the super wealthy have exploited the tax concessions outrageously.

In many places in Australia they will grow all year round, with no off season. But they are rarely available in shops.

We call them chokos in Australia and they are strongly associated with hard times, like the Great Depression when people had to grow their own food.
