In her speech, Governor-General Sam Mostyn referenced the ANU motto “first to know the nature of things”:
“It is the nature of universities to seek transformation through understanding.”

It was a wonderful moment to be part of the recognition of her life and her work. Her niece, Deb Andrews, spoke beautifully of the achievement her aunt was most proud of: becoming the first Aboriginal nurse in 1954.
