Surely the dogs we have all the way through our PhD programmes should be conferred the rank of “dog-tor.” At least, we have decided this for Baldr, who was the load-bearing emotional support dog for two PhDs simuntaneously.

Spent a sunny Sunday building some raised vegetable beds in the backyard and cultivating our pollinators 🥰

Had a nice little jet-lagged pootle around Pittsburgh today before my brief stop off at #ASEH2025 tomorrow for the day :)

Had a neat day taking one of my diss students to the archive to look for records of the Sunderland Cholera epidemics. It’s always such a joy introducing someone to archival research for the first time!!

@robertsuits.bsky.social and I are at St Pancras bright and early today on our way to @wceh2024!! Why so early, you ask? Because we decided to go by TRAIN! Over the next three days, we’ll be on sleeper trains, regional trains, and even a ferry or two as we head to Oulu. Wish us luck!

Once again in my happy place at the @ExploreWellcome library, distracting myself from my familiar frustration of not *immediately* feeling better after a medical procedure. Fittingly, reading about C diff infections two days after a gnarly colonoscopy.

So excited to be in Oxford for the next six months to live that academic hermit life and finish up some projects (and do a LOT of walking)

Back in the UK after a whirlwind tour of the US attending my favorite conference, seeing an eclipse, saying a final goodbye to one of our most loved and admired people, and then hiking for a couple of days. Now…to jump right back in! 😂😂😭

My prettiest pre-conference run yet 🥰 #ASEH2024

It’s hard to convey how wonderful and energizing it is to get to spend weekends visiting places I’ve been reading about for years, that form the basis of how I understand the UK, industrialization, and environmental change - this weekend, it was Sunderland.
