More women are leaving their jobs this year -- this is just the latest piece of evidence. The return to office push, the soaring cost of child-care and elder-care and the changing demographics of the country are all at work here. My latest: www.axios.com/2025/11/20/w...
More working men are caregivers as women leave workforce, survey finds
There's not a big shift in gender equality — instead, it's a change in who's going to work.

Has anyone written a story about the whole phenomenon of the side-chat conversations that now happen regularly on any Zoom or Teams meetings? It's a fascinating little work subculture

Important piece from @emilypeck.bsky.social on today's labor market trends: www.axios.com/2025/11/20/w...

As more men juggle working & caregiving, it underscores the urgency of policies like affordable child care & paid leave to help everyone meet their responsibilities on the job and at home.

Social Security backed off a change to the way disability insurance works — a huge relief to advocates and the many people who rely on it — after a raft of criticism. They don't call Social Security the third-rail of politics for no reason.. www.axios.com/2025/11/20/s...
Social Security not planning major disability overhaul amid criticism
A reported plan would've reduced the number of people who qualified for disability, panicking advocates.

In 2024, Tierra Walker was sick and getting sicker. She was also pregnant.

She knew abortion was illegal in Texas, but thought there was an exception for women like her, whose health was at risk. Doctors told her there was no emergency.

Then she died.

Other element of this is the non-backfill. Someone leaves, the position is just cut. Leaving workers with more to do with less resources.

Women have had it. 2 out of 5 said they'd like to permanently move to another country.
That's four times as high as in 2014.
21 points higher than among young men.
Only 19% of men expressed a similar desire.

No other wealthy country has numbers like these

On a $500,000 home, assuming current average rates, taking out a 50-year mortgage instead of a 30-year loan would save you $5,000 in monthly payments over five years.

You'd also lose out on $27,000 in equity.

Buyers taking out a 50-year mortgage wouldn't actually save that much.
