Plot twist - CryoEM reveals that inhibitors bind to a different site (actually two sites). May displace cholesterol? The discovery of a druggable site will enable the identification of inhibitors and activators of other OTOP channels and propel research into their diverse physiological functions.

The hypothesis (combinatorial coding) didn't win the Nobel prize - the discovery of odorant receptors (by Linda Buck and Richard Axel) won it. It enabled the work touted by Science as well as a whole field of research.

Interesting. So, of course, I had to try it. It doesn't taste sour to me, tastes metallic. Anyone else try it?

If it generates protons could activate OTOP1 proton channels in sour cells. But more likely sour cells are easier to activate with electrical stimulus.
