And I was there with a guy who has gone for a couple decades. Said Zevon was there tons of times to jam with Stephen King and Dave Barry.

Though I gotta say, highlight of the weekend was attending a panel on the 75th anniversary collection of Peanuts, and I was sitting behind Art Spiegelman.

Late 60's touring circuit was wild. You could just be going to see a band go all in on White Light White Heat but it ends up just being local kids playing some Motown covers.

Or the Zombies but it is really future members of ZZ Top.

It's great that you two have a regular podcast because I can now hear this interaction in my mind and it is glorious.

It's impressive how more often than not the technology is off, but the ways humans interact with such changes or technology is where it shines and shocks.

But the real question, will you do the windows?
November 20, 2025 at 4:44 PM

Of course Page cared about the album statement, the band Led Zeppelin were his baby, and started releasing albums after Pepper. Not before.
November 20, 2025 at 4:27 PM
Yes, only a few months, after, because the albums were partially recorded concurrently. (PF stopped by the recording of Pepper in fact).

And why would these artists care about their artistic merits? Arguably due to what the Beatles were doing with their own statements.
November 20, 2025 at 4:20 PM
And while the Animals were broken up, their successor, Eric Burdon and the animals began doing standardized albums in both counties in fall of '67. The end of the year of Pepper. Again proving my point.
November 20, 2025 at 4:17 PM
Yes, and everyone knows the Odessey and Oracle as the album statement (released Post-Pepper, as we all know with Kooper's support) and the earlier one as more of a general collection. Pretty much proves my point.
November 20, 2025 at 4:15 PM
Not at all, most British acts (the Zombies, the Who, The Animals etc) were putting out different albums across the ocean. Even within months of Peppers, PF still put out different versions of Pipers at the Gates of Dawn in the US and Uk. But by their second album it was the same in both countries.
November 20, 2025 at 3:56 PM
True, but a lot of those British acts went on to be the defining album makers of the post Pepper's era

The overblown "most important album ever" has thankfully been dropped but it did establish something in the development of rock. Certain ideas became the norm rather than exceptions.
November 20, 2025 at 3:40 PM
I think that Sgt. Pepper still holds a historical importance in the development of albums in rock.

Each song flows into each other, an international tracklisting, meaning you had the album oriented rock era.

He was listed on the Rockville lineup and I was like "him alone?" but you got me psyched.
November 20, 2025 at 4:59 AM
The British Uncle Tupelo.... Is that anything?
November 19, 2025 at 9:42 PM
Woah, that's a heck of a lineup.

Saw the top three at Rockville this year
