In fact, it’s the real difference between the two major parties: the Republicans fear their base, whereas Democrats despise their base.

Gene Roddenberry believed that advances in tech would lead to better communication between people & thus, soothe over longstanding religious/ethnic hatreds. Unfortunately, it never occurred to him that all the worst people would have just as much access to the tech as the good people.
