I understand taking specimens means killing birds, but people like Wilson (who i referenced) are ok being left in a textbook and not on a bird. Descriptive common names or indigenous names make way more sense in 2025. We can acknowledge Audobon's contributions but can't ignore he enslaved humans.

They are, it is also supported by lots of bird alliances (or audobon's groups, if they are too conservative to have renamed yet) nationally in the US.

Why I am excited for the Bird Names for Birds initiative in the works in North America. Especially not sorry to see Wilson's warbler be named literally anything else. Black-capped warbler is right there.

North American birding orgs are also working on replacing birds named after dead guys in favor of common names that describe them at least. Would love more indigenous and sound-bases names. It is just sloooow going.
