"la llorona (the crying woman, the weeping woman, the wailer) is a vengeful ghost in Hispanic American folklore who is said to roam near bodies of water mourning [blacked out text] she drowned [blacked out text] whoever heard her crying either suffers misfortune or death and their life becomes unsuccessful in every field. Origins: the origins of the legend are uncertain, dice la tradición que existió una mujer atractiva y voraz, que atraía a los hombres de pueblo en pueblo con encanto y tentación. Una vez [blacked out text] murió [blacked out text]. Ella [blacked out text] siguió vagando [blacked out text]. Los campesinos escuchan su llanto lleno de alma traidora que nunca pudo superar la muerte [blacked out text]. Hello everyone it's my birthday 🥳 and what I want most is for y'all to read and share my new #Untitledno89 prequel comic I made! I really want to launch U89 as a webcomic next year so this is a spoiler free teaser for the vibes and aesthetic of the story (1/6)

And then there's a list of information typically seen in missing posters like name, age, height, weight, hair color, hair length, eye color, what she was wearing, last seen, all censored. It then says "an Untitled no. 89 story by Jaime A. Mosquera Manchola" A journal entry by Josie written on lined paper bordered by a blue background. "It hasn't rained in a few weeks, and for some reason, that terrifies me. I feel the humidity suffocating me, like the sea that raised me so lovingly is flooding into my lungs and drowning me. It's clouding my brain. Making me think of something Ovidio wrote: 'this island is our sacred body and the sea its destiny; both are in constant terrifying negotiation. The argument between us and our deaths." It's so gruesome, to see fate through the lens of its most unforgiving possibility and none of its beauty. I've never accepted my destiny as anything but beautiful." The next selection is crossed out: " but because of these dreams". Return to regular text: "I can feel the spirits of this island move around me, and it makes me feel naive to believe in the goodness of fate. That my destiny can be dissimilar to theirs. Who decides which lives are lovely, and which are not? The water in the air, the ocean, my body all whisper the same doubt to me:" A ripped piece of the line page says at the top: "is something beautiful coming for me? Or is fate truly hideous?" Then I was featured in a Latin artist showcase called Artisferio! I finished a 20 page comic mostly in a week for it that I'm very proud of ! This comic is a prequel to #Untitledno89 that I'll post soon!

I toned my first set of Thirteen Houses pages so I could pitch them and hopefully bring a sampler to a zinefest (printing went very badly so it did not come with me at the end lol). Going to get back into drawing more soon!

Gearing up for my October challenge, so in the meantime, here's a commission I did for a friend's birthday!!

Going to be at DICE on 9/27 in Brooklyn, if you're nearby you should check it out!! There's going to be some stellar artists at a couple of stellar shops!
My character Ovidio takes a picture in the middle and the background has a picture of the ocean. In the bottom left corner there's a logo for the Brooklyn Artery and in the right a logo for Taylor & Co. Books.
