With Halloween being a week away I thought I would suggest some spooky themed games. They aren’t as big as your silent hills or resident evils but if you’re wanting some quick fun I’ll put a summary in the alt. The range is wide from rogue like to friend sim. Please check offical content warnings
The Coma(originally the coma:cutting class, recut is a remake with some QOL updates) 2D survivor horror. Help Youngho escape a nightmare version of his school. Has a enemy who stalks you(sometimes camping you) good chases that can get the adrenaline going. If you try it and like what you get there are sequels so win-win. Yuppie Psycho is a Psychological RPG horror with a great sense of humor, vaporwave vibes. If you like your spooks with a bit of absurdity and puzzles, I’d give this one a recommendation. It doesn’t hurt that Brian the main character is a cutie lol. Brain Pasternack seems to have gotten the dream, getting a job at the illustrious Sintracorp, a position that instantly comes with great pay and a boost in the caste system of the setting. However it turns out his job is to be a witch-hunter and seek out the witch who is poisoning/corrupting the company from the inside. Purrfect Apawcalypse: Love at First Bite is more of a visual novel. If you like dark comedy and don’t mind a bit of gore this one is fun. Olive is a cute puppy who’s school is currently going through an apocalypse as demons try to kill everyone inside. Help them find a special someone to spend their last moments with, or purrhaps uncover more about the situation? Honestly the characters in this are really charming and it’s fun to try to unlock every end and path. The game covers mature themes so beware. Oh yeah and similar to the coma this one has two sequels so there’s more fun to be had if you like this one. If you like eldritch horror, Junji Ito vibes, and roguelites World of Horror is really fun for short bursts. Very nice pixel art with some good unsettling visuals. Help a world that is on the cusp of being destroyed by an old god being summoned by cultists. You take on a paranormal investigator role of sorts as you solve mysteries that each give you a key to access the lighthouse and try to stop the ritual. But stopping the end can be tricky as you try to maintain your health and sanity. As I mentioned the visuals can be unsettling and there are some dark themes. Also this game is really easy to mod so if you like the idea of throwing your kid into the spooky zone that can be fun to.

Krunk is notably a middle child with a big age gap between him and his older sister Gurrd but his little sister Sha'a isn't so large 40s-50s/13/10 He was pretty much raised by Gurrd, and tries to be a doting big bro to Sha'a(she hates it(not really))

Yuki Mori is a young high schooler who dreams of being an idol, he's very self confident but also popularity obsessed. Unfortunately for him, he's dead. Killed in a hit and run on his way home from school Yuki is now anchored to the school and cant leave, on top of that no one can see or hear him, he cant even move things like a proper poltergeist. His current life revolves around finding ways to spend his afterlife and trying to be noticed despite all odds. He's terrified of the concept of moving on, he doesn't want to go on to the next life, he wants this life here that he had (for similar reasons he has not even thought of possessing someone). Warning, if he can be seen by your character expect him to be very clingy/orbity as he tries to use you to fill his social battery. His ego can be insufferable as he does stuff like call himself the cutest kid in school and insist on cute nicknames. (as one of my other future characters is about to find out) Meet Fray "Krunk" Briarmane, he's a young gnome who comes from an Isolationist village deep in the forest.(Think traditional forest elves with a orc warrior culture) As part of his culture's coming of age ceremony he is venturing out into the outside world for the first time with the goal of hunting a powerful monster for glory with waaaaaay more confidence than he probably needs. He's a stubborn little guy who comes from a culture where might makes right but only really applies that mindset to himself, being surprisingly accepting of other's nontraditional strengths or lack thereof. Despite his hardheadedness he is easygoing and gets along with nearly anyone as long as they are honorable and don't patronize him. He wants to be a hunter when he grows up and has a love of Axes as a weapon. Claims that he's not short others are just weirdly tall (which given his frame of reference until recently was other gnomes is sound logic to him.) Tobias Hastur is an odd boy who lives on a harsh mountain. The mountain itself is weird enough with it's unforgiving landscapes, ever changing moods, and progressive danger the closer you get to the bottom of the mountain as if it doesn't want to let people leave. Toby is strange in a less direct way. He's really tall, his eyes seem a little too big, and he speaks in a persistent monotone and doesn't really seem to display emotions. But on the other hand he acts completely harmless, working his family's general store and caring for his widowed mother. He's soft spoken but loves to hear other people talk, about themselves and their troubles, he's also a sweetheart who wants to ensure other's safety. But his very nature seems to work against him with things like flickers at the corner of your vision as you talk to him, his seeming ability to know things without you telling him, and his tendency to go on walks in the dead of night, putting people off. Basically while people think he's basically slenderman he just wants to ask you if you'd like to come inside for the night cause it's dangerous. Krunk's childhood friend, Nim Barktender has had life pretty rough. Growing up sickly in a village where might makes right has led to him being bullied almost all his life. He tries to prove himself useful by collecting herbs and staring a small garden to help out the doctors in the village as well as still trying to do more physical activities like hunt. He uses a bow for a weapon and can often be found practicing his archery. Nim is soft spoken and doesn't see his own value, a people pleaser with no self esteem due to how he's been treated over the years. Being born around the same time as Krunk he is also going on a similar trial.

I said this a while back but to me Basil kind of sounds like the confession booth voice from the game Catherine in a blender with Hypnos from the game Hades, he has a bit of sass to his voice. He isn't always as composed as those characters though, but he is just as prone to snark.
