It's genuinely so bad for game dev and open source that we have thousands of CLI apps across every language but only like 20 open source games.

it is a little disappointing they went through all this work to make a native linux port, only to lock us out of it on desktop and give us a *worse* experience. My question is why? How is is a binary game compiled for linux not compatible with desktop linux distributions?
