The other option was vapour smoothing but it turns out my home insurance does not like the idea of me using boiling chloroform at home :( they were fine with boiling acetone though! (I have a fire suppression system too don't worry)

I have an extraction system, don't worry. And we're looking at an oven for ceramic coatings which has been the most thrilling rabbit hole to jump down. It's like pouring over the Maplin catalogue in 2010 again except everything is even more expensive!

I'm definitely a proponent of the idea that owning one or more 3D printers opens you up to the risk of using it for everything when it's not the best tool for the job, but damn does it render making little bullshit mounts and adapters around the house so easy. I'm now immune to ABS fumes, too.

Relearning 3D modelling (for ~industrial~ purposes, I'm still utter shit in Blender) has been SO satisfying too. Being able to design, manufacture and finish jigs for working, assembly or testing makes you so smug when they work first time (they do... 60% of the time but they're always very close)

It is! It's a nice mix. It's self employed but under a really nice contract and I know the commissioner well (we've been ham radio friends since... 2009?) and he's already talking about expanding it lmao. It's just nice to have an EQUIPMENT BUDGET omg.

I might stream again around Christmas, not sure. This year's been a Lot so I'm focusing on spending time with loved ones and enjoying this work project for now, though :)

Highly, highly satisfying designing niche but useful hardware from scratch. I have JCLPCB orders arriving this week that are sadly under NDA but we have the budget to pay for proper pick and place assembly, which is a luxury I could never have dreamed of. However, I've had to relearn C++ :(

I have a legit SOLIDWORKS license and everything. There's a first time for everything. I'm even learning Fusion 360 (finally) because surfacing work in SW makes both SW and I want to die

In related news, I'm making good money writing code and designing housings for wearable electronics. Shout out to my extremely cool electronics teacher in secondary school for getting me interested in this.
Sleeping better than I have in years, too. It's nice! I'll likely be back in a bit.
