Hi! I enjoy hiking, birding, reading, and playing video games. I live with my three cockatiels and husband in Maryland.
I rearranged some toys in the bird room today, and they are pleased.

I finished The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell last night. I'm really enjoying his Marinus trilogy, and I immediately borrowed Slade House from the library so I can continue the journey. The characters are so rich, and Mitchell is a really talented writer. I cried at the bittersweet ending.

I read The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell. It was my first time reading Mitchell and I loved it so much I immediately borrowed The Bone Clocks from my library. Dr. Marinus was definitely my favorite character.

We went to a car meetup this morning, which was very fun and we met some nice guys. And now I am inside enjoying the AC and hanging out with my little rat men.

The absolute deafening sounds of my birds this morning eating like they hadn't eaten in days.

They are very cute!

I read The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai. It's largely set in the 80s Chicago gay community as it is decimated by the AIDS crisis. It is devastating and beautifully written.

I read The Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden. I was not prepared for the gut-punch that was Part III. Loved the book.

I love his teeny little crest. He's molting right now so it's extra teeny

We have 5 baby mantises at our house! It's great to see the little ones. I hope they stay nearby and eat lots of bugs.

I went on a tour of the National Cathedral over the weekend. I enjoyed the views over DC from the bell tower, and all the beautiful stained glass. Our tour guide was amazing, and she shared so many special little details.

I went to the Outer Banks with some friends last week, and one of the highlights was the Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo. Here are some camellia that were blooming all over the place

I just finished reading Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams. It was a really interesting read, and explains a lot about how the world has gotten into the mess of horrible misinformation and terrible politics we now find ourselves.

"And feel it now, so soft, so eternal, this wind against your good and living skin."

I just finished The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff, which is so beautifully written. She writes historical fiction in a way no one else can.

Bibby is also 14, and I love the light in this picture of him. You can see his iris which is not black but actually dark brown. Bibby doesn't stand still for pictures very often, he's usually off trying to destroy something. I love how full his sweet, yellow crest is.

I can't believe this little guy is 14. He still looks like a little baby with his short crest and his soft grey coloring (his mom was a lutino cockatiel so I think it's made him lighter)

I just finished reading The Six by Loren Grush, which I wouldn't have picked on my own because I don't usually choose non-fiction. I read it for book club, and it was so engaging. The writing is straightforward, captivating, and so well-researched.

Romie got a bit of a bath today; the other two didn't want one and I usually don't push them. Now Romie is sleeping in the sunshine while I clean their cage.

(I keep it in sight but away from them for a few days until they acclimate.)
