Proposing that initial topic was probably driven by when I've found myself feeling brushed off & exasperated when non-methodologist colleagues want me to successfully convince them of why I strongly suggest a certain (perhaps unfamiliar) choice––e.g., not adjusting for colliders––in < 1 minute

One of our assignments was to explain a complex topic from our work to a general audience--I proposed causal mediation. My instructor gently suggested I change the topic. Upon reflection, it was more about me desiring to clearly the method to OTHER scientists, but not "science" to the public

I took a science writing/comm for scientists course at Northwestern's journalism school (one of the leaders in the field) & my instructor emphasized that we usually almost never need to get into the weeds of methods with the public.
