Making a game that actually runs on PlayStation 1.

Half of it, at least. 😂
(Didn’t expect the demo to take 1.5 months instead of 2 weeks!)

Can’t say for sure, the emulation of PS1 is not perfect there.

Oh, that one is a part of a BIOS, you can’t change that. 😅

And then use BootEdit to replace the model in the ISO with your own .TMD file.

Hello.
I will do it as I've seen a few people being disappointed that it's not there...

It would be a bit hard since the memory of sound chip doesn't have pretty much any space left, but I'll figure something out!

Hi.
Can you give me the firmware version, please? :)
I'll add it to the manual/guide.

I want to do Pink Sea, but I feel like it won't be as easy because I want the water to look beautiful, shiny and reflect stuff... :D

I plan to emulate how PS1 GPU functions and do a software renderer - this should be relatively easy - there's no need to do the whole system emulation.

Sadly DuckStation's license is incredibly restrictive, so I can't use its code in any way. PCSX-Redux is more permissive, but its emulation is not perfect, especially in terms of SPU.

I might add some more levels in the future.
The problem is that the most beautiful/popular/wanted levels are also some of the most complicated ones, so they might take more time to do than the two worlds I did (Block World and Snow World).

Taki Udon has said that this has potential IP problems as the IP is not mine, and I understand. :)

Thanks!
I guess porting it to PC, polishing it a bit and pitching to Playism. :)
November 6, 2025 at 12:55 PM
Yes, an actual PS1 game. 😁
November 4, 2025 at 10:59 AM
I posted some stuff in Uboachan's Discord.
I'd like for someone to create a thread there if there's enough interest, but would probably be better once its released.

The demo for this will be out on my Itch page (eliasdaler.itch.io) in about 1 or 2 days. 🙏

Most things look possible, except for the shadows. :)
But yeah, making something run on PS1 requires a *complete* rewrite, especially so if the engine/game wasn't written in C/C++.

Thank you!

Yeah, I have my own exporter written with Blender API. I export directly from .blend files into my custom mesh/level format (I use Blender as a level editor too)

He's on vacation. :)

I plan to return to the "main" game pretty soon, though! Yume Nikki project is just a temporary distraction.
