Glad you like it!

If this is what you're thinking of, they actually are the same model. My head canon is that the design would be tested on the below project before being used on Tongren.

ILE, International Landing Experiment, a hypothetical joint US-Chinese lunar landing. The Orion capsule would fly to the moon and meet up with a waiting Lanyue lander. It would also be a good time to test some habitats for future stations, such as this spherical structure.

Wow I really like that, especially how the integrated sort of "nose" feature ties the design to the Defiant. I feel like this would have worked if they took off the underslung secondary hull.

I'm scrolling through your publication and that size comparison between the Shuttle and Soyuz is wild.

On Wikipedia it says that Merkur is an erroneous label that the Smithsonian gave it, but none of the sources work, so that's interesting that it's in the Russian sources. Which Soyuz variant did you climb in?

(Also, I'm very jealous)

That was kinda the problem. They would have opened it at a preselected moment and then just hoped for the best.

The 7969 was one of many designs submitted to the Man In Space Soonest project, the USAF's plan to beat the Soviets to space. Ultimately, none of the MISS concepts ever flew. The project was canceled and spaceflight duties were handed over to NASA and their Project Mercury.
