The data reports out at the state and regional level for just one test year (2024) and measures the increases in gross losses of coal fired power plants had they run more often. In 2024, coal plants burdened customers with $5 billion in unneeded costs.

It may surprise you that Southern Company has remained below the climate alignment line and their IRP projections are in line with their own targets (even a little lower) but compared to long-term climate alignment, they fall short.

Here we see Dominion with historical emissions well above a climate-aligned target continuing in the future with their IRP projection remaining well above climate alignment and even far above their own target.

Stop posting, stop logging in, and just deactivate it.

I'm a lil ashamed to admit that it was the fact I had so many more followers that made me hesitate but F that.

It got to go.

Turns out when coal plants run at a loss in the market, the monitized health impacts are 13x larger. This is based on analysis from @rockymtninst.bsky.social intern Anna Oehlerking and analyst extraordinar, Gaby Tosado, using data from EPA's COBRA tool.
