Scaling back heat-pump grants, weakening support for the poorest homes, and penalising EVs risks locking the UK into a high-cost, gas-dependent system.

⚡ Electrification cuts bills
⚡ Gas stays artificially cheap

Put bill-payers first.

So while the new funding is welcome, it’s not yet a guarantee of access to the best electric cars - or the reliable charging network the UK urgently needs.
As ever, the devil is in the detail.

We’ll be watching the Budget closely.

A big issue? Levy reform.

Government inaction means consumers still can’t fully cash in on going electric.

Our tracker shows rebalancing levies alone could save EV drivers £64 a year - money families should be keeping.

There is plenty to celebrate:
🚗 1 in 5 new cars sold is electric
🔌 5.2k public chargers added in Q2 2025 73% up on Q1

But our State of Electrification tracker shows adoption isn’t yet transforming everyone’s experience.

One rumour causing concern? A pay-per-mile tax.

Charging EV drivers 3p per mile to replace falling fuel-duty revenue might sound simple, but a clumsy rollout could slow the shift to electric.
Done well, it could work - but done badly, it undercuts progress.

Rebalancing policy costs across fuels could:
💷 Save heat pump users £182/year
🔌 Save EV drivers £64/year
👉 Time to stop penalising cleaner choices
👉 Time for levy reform
👉 Time to #ElectrifyBritain - fairly

Govt schemes are nudging families towards gas - not cleaner, electric options.

💥 The ‘spark gap’ - difference between electricity & gas prices - is the highest in 2 years
⚡ Electricity is 4.19x more expensive than gas
We’re penalising people for going green.

🌍 The road ahead:

We must:
🔋 Electrify vans & HGVs faster
💡 Expand smart charging
📉 Help households cut charging costs

The momentum is real - let’s keep driving it forward.
For people. For the economy. For the planet.

⚠️ What’s holding us back?

⚠️ Just 1% of HGVs are electric
⚠️ Vans are also lagging
⚠️ Only 49% of home chargers use smart tariffs
⚠️ Smart levy reform could save EV households £64/year

We’ve come far - now we need to go further.

🚌🚄 Electrification is spreading:

✅ Buses & rail making progress
✅ Smart tariffs save drivers £££
✅ More affordable EVs entering market
✅ Home charging is mainstream
But some vehicles are still behind. 👇

💷 The benefits are clear:

Households can save up to £1,092/year

Batteries (~£10k) typically pay back in ~10 years

87% would recommend solar to friends
❗But 63% still say upfront cost is the biggest barrier
October 6, 2025 at 8:01 AM
📈 Installations are accelerating.

Solar installs jumped 88% in just 3 years

At the current 36% annual growth rate, we’re on track to hit 9M installs by 2030

And it’s not just panels...
🔋 Battery installs rose 131% in the 1st half of 2025 vs last year (18,000 systems!)

We don’t need new tech - we need better policy.

📉 Cut electricity costs
📈 Make clean heat the obvious choice
Time to stop subsidising fossil fuels and start building a truly electrified Britain.
