People vote for Reform because they feel excluded and frustrated and they offer an easy solution. Glib jokes don't help. Sorry to be po-faced about it but if we want to stop them we need to get real about that.

I'm not sure suggesting folk be excluded from a future Scotland based on where they live - and its current and historic voting pattern - is the best way to do that. I'm for the politics of hope and inclusion and doing the work to address inequality in our communities.

As one of the Greens in question - we were the only Holyrood Party to increase our vote, not just in percentage but in actual votes on a depressed turnout. It's tough here - small branch, challenging demographics, no elected reps, huge ward to cover. Not really representative of national position.

99% Invisible is great - mostly about "design" but covers all sorts. Natalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics, Words Unravelled.

It's ranking at Council elections, an x in one box at Westminster elections and two xs on two papers for Holyrood. Another reason for independence - we can have a single voting system for all elections!

There's no ranked list in these elections. You get two ballot papers - one for your constituency and one for your regional list - both of which you mark with an x for your preferred party or parties.
