You will enjoy the 1000 new wind turbines I hope.

You need to call a motion of no confidence in Scot Gov over this.
May 29, 2025 at 3:27 PM
I think it is time to cancel my @snp.org membership over this.

From Gov.UK
However, everyone arriving in the UK, including those entering Northern Ireland, continues to need to enter in line with the UK’s Immigration Rules including obtaining an ETA if they are eligible.

The UK is at less risk from Russia than most other nations in the continent - plus, with a decent navy and nuclear weapons, we can just sit out the next European war if we choose to. With the current attitude eminating from the EU that feels like an attractive proposition.
March 25, 2025 at 8:32 PM
As long as the UK can sit out any European war. We might even want to sign a non agression pact with Russia to ensure further safety.
March 25, 2025 at 8:30 PM
For a guarantee that it won't get involved in any EU-Russian conflict.
March 25, 2025 at 8:27 PM
The UK doesn't have to defend the EU - it is a long way from Russia, is an island nation and has a nuclear deterrent. It could quite happily be neutral and sit on its island or it could even sign a pact with Russia.
March 25, 2025 at 8:26 PM
Those are the rules the Irish have.
March 25, 2025 at 1:36 PM
If you surrender and regain multiple times you need more of a reason.
March 25, 2025 at 12:01 PM
So spending a few months each year for 5 years would be enough.
March 25, 2025 at 12:00 PM
Ireland sucks generally but it is the easiest. You don't really even have to live there to do it. If you rent somewhere small and pay your tax there there are no checks about what time you actually spend there as long as you exit through NI

Most EU countries have terrible citizenship policies and treat you badly if you're not a citizen.
March 25, 2025 at 11:51 AM
You can reclaim British citizenship once if you follow this process.
March 25, 2025 at 11:50 AM
So no having to declare you wish to keep Irish citizenship every year. They will not be able to remove it as you'd be stateless
March 25, 2025 at 11:28 AM
If you do 5 years you get Irish citizenship- if you then surrender British then they cannot take it off you whatever you do.
March 25, 2025 at 11:28 AM
If anyone wants FOM back they need to get it back themselves. Emigrating to Ireland and then surrendering your UK citizenship being the obvious and quickest route.
March 24, 2025 at 8:52 PM
I think it is extremely obvious that they won't do anything - and frankly given how divisive this whole thing is and the other challenges in the world (including reform) that is probably the right decision. What we need to do now is prioritise improving this country.
March 24, 2025 at 8:52 PM
The world is so hard for young people I don't think many have the optimism left to expect positive change. My 11 year old nephew is already somewhat disillusioned with his future due to climate change.
March 22, 2025 at 3:16 PM
I think the best idea is to withhold things the EU want - like access to water resources or military assistance until they grow up
March 17, 2025 at 3:28 PM
I think we need a referendum - maybe we can require 80% - on whether the UK should assist the EU if their sovereignty is threatened by Russia.
March 17, 2025 at 3:26 PM
6 days in the middle of a pandemic too
March 17, 2025 at 3:24 PM
There should also be variance in visa prices and naturalisation requirements depending on nationality - e.g. the Spanish should pay more and take longer
March 17, 2025 at 11:20 AM
Also require a return ticket, prearranged hotel booking and a full itin as some of our "allies" already do
