Wow, first, that’s hilarious, and, second, I forget sometimes how totally different whale species are, because in orca society the aunties and older sisters are always helping with the calves! They’re very matriarchal, though, and I think I’ve heard humpbacks are solitary?

Oooo, I’m envious of you for seeing a humpback! I saw gray whales once, a long time ago, but never humpbacks.

I know, me too. They seem so earnest! I get that nature doesn’t care, but I wish it could be kinder to them.
