I only see tv news when visiting my parents , and that’s exactly my impression. It’s not bias I’ve ever seen, it’s just dumbed down (and given a lot of their viewers presumably want that, else they’d turn off…)

I don’t even agree with the funding model but oh the whining from some of the population here. Nobody is being ‘forced’ to pay it they’re choosing to bc they can’t tear themselves away from the teee veee or even you know , have a look at apple’s offerings

I just checked the rules - because I thought hang on did I miss something. You need a licence if you watch the bbc, live stuff on a set or streaming . Otherwise no you don’t . And this not being the 80s there is not a shortage of other stuff!

Have you ever been sat on a plane and someone recognised you and proudly showed off their shoes still on feet;)

7% of the population there apparently are on food stamps. Whether you use the British or American definition, they can’t be in that group (I’ve been boggling at that figure all week.)

Plus ‘working people’ is irritating as a framing. Where is the line? Down a coal mine is presumably ‘working’, ok. What about some poor soul on a small wage in a call centre ? Or an executive PA who maybe doesn’t make much? What exactly do you have to make before you’re considered not ‘working’

I am getting to the point where I’d pay extra for subscriptions that guaranteed me no LLM popups etc (a tool my work use prompts continually to ‘summarise’ comments. That I made… myself )

I don’t have a tv so I’m not sure I’m clear but - is it correct the bbc have been leading the news with this?? This, not people being slaughtered in Ukraine and Sudan, say? How is that possible?

People are dumb with money and cars. I’ve heard people say ‘well I needed (insert expensive car) because..’ which they’re in debt for. Nobody needs a high end car unless for some job-specific reason like you work for jaguar. They’re often the same platform as a mass market car by the same maker.

I kept my iPod nanos going for a long time, eventually they did pack up tho, and apple stopped supporting.
I do have a little MP3 player that I use when just want music and not to be distracted by anything on the phone. Oakcastle.

It’s not even just academics, I think there’s a lot of people who are good at one thing, who then decide ‘well I’m a genius aren’t I’ - even tho they’re in fact deeply ignorant or stupid in almost every other regard. Certainly see it in my line of work.
