That one is oracc.org/dccmt/P347488 = cdli.earth/P347488, which doesn’t quite look right.

I think your photo is instead oracc.org/dccmt/P347486 = cdli.earth/P347486 (also the 24 times table, written by the same student four days earlier, if I am reading this right?)

I mostly don’t talk at conferences (being a software engineer, I can get away with not doing any of that), but last time I did so a couple of years ago I ended up not being able to decipher my own handwritten notes while presenting, so it ended up being unscripted anyway…

That reminds me, it’s been a while since I’ve sent you pictures of brioches…

The pictographs were provisionally assigned (185-C2), I guess they will be in Unicode 19 (September 2027).

(Of course cuneiform has been in Unicode since 2006, so people have long been able to post their third millennium or later receipts on social media…)

By the way, the characters proposed in that document have been approved for inclusion in Unicode 18 at the latest UTC meeting (decision 185-C39), so in September next year you should be able to post the numbers from that tablet as plain text on BlueSky.

See system Š* in www.unicode.org/L2/L2024/242... p. 42 and the various works by Englund referenced there (and of course see zenodo.org/records/3739... = [Eng98]).

I think here the kinds of numerals (N20, as well as N47 in the total on the reverse, with those little ticks scattered over the numbers) tell us what it is (barley groats), so the pictograms must be something other than the things being counted.

But it is in DUR₂ KU₆~a, so it is a butt-fish! (cf. Archaic Fish oracc.org/dcclt/Q00001...; apparently the ED reflex is 𒇥𒄩? oracc.org/epsd2/o0077738).

Tous je ne pense pas, mais il y a beaucoup de photos sur collections.louvre.fr, objets non exposés inclus (j’y vais souvent pour regarder des tablettes cunéiformes dont les photos ne sont pas sur cdli.earth).

The catt was lockt in the chamber, and kept a great mewing, and leapt upon the bed, which made me I could not sleep a great while.

The UTC extends its deepest condolences to Andrew’s family, friends, and his many colleagues around the world.

The UTC notes with great sadness the tragic loss of @babelstone.co.uk, who passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025. UTC acknowledges Andrew’s many valuable contributions over 20+ years to the encoding of East Asian scripts.

That reminds me of a slide in a talk at the Rencontre in Helsinki last year which mentioned dead oxen; the slide was titled GUD BAD.
July 27, 2025 at 8:24 PM
I think you want 𒌀 (TIL), rather than 𒁁 (BAD). They merge in later styles of cuneiform but are distinct in ED.
