Well, there was the time when The Lovely Wife(tm) assumed that the dial
setting between “high”
and “low” on our new slow cooker was “medium,” and not “off,” resulting in an overnight “stew” that consisted of raw meat fermenting in sauce in a hot kitchen…

The external books tell of the Thanksgiving miracle, in which a 12 pound turkey provided 20 pounds of leftovers.

What side dishes must one provide, and which can one rely on the relatives?

“I need an adult. I *am* an adult. I need a *different* adult” has long since entered family lore in these parts…

The bass of After Hours is also a choral director, so they do some impressively intricate arrangements. The pronoun changes are an unfortunate remnant of the conservative nature of the form. Midtown (2023 champs) changed pronouns for “Still Hurting,” which annoyed us to no end.

I love that this is, on the one hand, really friggin’ hard, and on the other hand, teachable enough that relative amateurs can do it with enough practice and produce amazing tones…

It often goes the other way: people start in choruses and then form quartets. Many, if not most, of the top
quartets also sing with choruses from their region (Newfangled Four with Westminster, Smoke Ring with Gotham). Choruses can also serve as a “farm system” for quartets (Zero8 for Lemon Squeezy)

Also love that I’m watching enough content that I’m able to recognize performers from their quartets (3/4 of MaxQ and 4/6 of Clutch among others…)

It might be “fine” as a justification and be piss-poor strategy for getting your message across, especially when you can’t stop your followers from chanting violent slogans. If you protest a synagogue for hosting any Israeli organization to the right of smol emuni, you’re doing more harm than good.

That only happened once, though…

I’m not much of a churchgoer (check the profile), but I can certainly appreciate the effort, love, and pride that goes into something like this.

Not at all surprising, given the source material and the chorus’s composition. To me, this is cultural exchange at its absolute best: respectfully combining musical & storytelling styles across continents without diluting either.

Speaking of Astoria & Scrabble: Richie Lund was a Con Ed ChemLab colleague of mine Back In the Day (we bonded over my recognizing his tattoo artist’s when we first met, but that’s a story for another time).
