I believe they need to reduce hours however a 1000 does seem a lot. A reduction would allow our students to get a bit more down time - our current academic year is non standard they start earlier and finish later with less holiday. We also have a high drop out rate due to the demands of the course.

Nursing is the only healthcare course that prescribes the number of hours to be completed and it is hard. There is currently no room for sickness or life events occurring on our course. HCPC (paramedics, radiographers etc) don’t have this issue.
