Always fascinated by caddisflies! This critter was caught and returned to the water in the Pitarque River (Teruel, Valencia) during fieldwork for the course on Environmental Indicators and Monitoring in the Environmental Sciences Degree program @ccbiologiquesuv.bsky.social

Totalmente cierto! Un jardín, un huerto o un parque (por eso son también tan importantes en las ciudades). Siempre voy fijándome! ☺️☺️

New paper out! Using sediment cores, we analyzed rotifer diapausing egg banks to track temporal variation in reproductive success. Populations with ⬆️ variation showed ⬇️ hatching fractions, supporting bet hedging.

If interested, you can find it here: doi.org/10.1093/plan...

Or ask me directly ;)

Gracias Juli! Leeré la reseña y el libro Sara García Alonso con mucho interés. Por cierto, el post y el título del libro me han recordado este otro que leí este verano y que me pareció una delicia 👇🏻

Rotifer habitats with shorter and less stable hydroperiods likely select for earlier (sex induced) diapause. Also, we detected trade-offs between traits related to leaving diapause that show the dilemma of spreading hatching among or within growing seasons.

We were just doing plant cover transects with first year Biology undergraduates but they were struck by the diversity of bugs that can play a role in pollination. There is nothing more mind-blowing than observing nature!!! Hooray for these young naturalists!

Yes, you can make time to read. I started this week to devour this magnificent novel by Richard Powers, which is also a brilliant conservationist plea.👌

These mayflies have emerged these days. They look like Baetidae and I find them everywhere in my neighborhood. The life span of an adult mayfly can range from a few hours up to two days. So I'm amused to see if they mate. But so far without success.

How long does it take for benthic macroinvertebrate assemblages to recover from a flash flood? By lifting stones from the bank of a wadeable stretch of the River Turia and within a week of the event I have gone from finding nothing to seeing gammaridae, melanopsidae and many, many heptageniidae.
