Today marks the 50th anniversary of what’s now known as the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA). IDEA opened the doors. Now we must keep widening them.
November 29, 2025 at 12:50 PM
50 years after IDEA, Black students with disabilities are still punished more than supported.

They’re just 2% of enrollment but make up 6% of in-school and 9% of out-of-school suspensions. And 64% face exclusionary discipline compared to 24% of white students with disabilities.
November 26, 2025 at 7:18 PM
50 years after IDEA, too many students with disabilities are still being left behind.

The promise of IDEA isn’t being fully met. It’s time to deliver the resources and support every student deserves.
