Semi-retired biotechnologist and virologist, interested in making vaccines, lover of 70s rock and hard SF. And good red wine. Posts are both personal and professional, and may include music and/or strong opinions. And possibly zombies.

You've been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who's coming to save you?

And Sanele, Sandiswa, Leah (post-doccing with us), Nicole and Nellie, hanging out with me for a photo 😁

That’s THREE of my former undergraduates up front tonight: Dr Heidi Segal, and Professors Wendy Burgers and Carolyn Williamson, who also did a PhD with me. They grow up so fast….😍

Always nice when one of your long-ago undergraduates who had a passion for Virology makes full Professor 😁 AND mentored by @anna-lisew.bsky.social as a Honours and a MSc!

The Good Wife pointed out that retired folk such as us could actually go out and do things in the week! So we drove out north to Aurora nearish Piketberg to deliver boxes of books, then went to Langebaan for lunch. Kokomo Beach! Seared calamari and mussels!! 😁 Only 350-odd km 😎
November 10, 2025 at 3:31 PM
And of course, @anna-lisew.bsky.social managed to get a better poster for @mandarybicka.bsky.social’s exhibition - so here it is! With her caracal prominently featured 😁

The Artist @mandarybicka.bsky.social and friends Heather and Anthony 😁 Rust en Vrede is a REALLY nice place to visit.
