#saturdaylaridae From July 2023, a Western Gull nest atop one of the many boats docked in Mission Bay, San Diego. Clearly, this boat hadn't been used by humans for awhile.

Documented this pair nesting successfully here in 2019, 2023, and 2024. Presumably they return every year. Look at that healthy chick!

#saturdaylaridae An interesting Western Gull nest in downtown Monterey, CA, from July 2023. It's on a narrow ledge above this second floor window above a downtown street. Such a small and precarious nest site is atypical of urban Westerns, much more typical of Glaucous-wingeds north in WA and BC.

New office. The rest is a mess right now, but the desk area is looking good.

#saturdaylaridae In Vancouver, December is the earliest we will see some Glaucous-winged Gull pairs return to their nest sites, more than 5 months before any eggs are actually laid.

Urban-nesting gulls! How and why they use the urban environment to live and reproduce.

A Glaucous-winged Gull down by the river for this #saturdaylaridae.

I'm bringing back the proud tradition of #saturdaylaridae. I started this tag on IG about a decade ago and I plan to resurrect it here. Here's a peak winter plumage Glaucous-winged Gull, Vancouver, BC.
