My amazing husband Majed worked *so hard* on this project for >5 years - finally published today @natcomms.nature.com 😍

Absolutely insane array of methods, looking at microglia proliferation patterns & cell-cell interactions after stroke. Proud moment! 💫

Science demos at the town fair in Marburg this Saturday 🧑‍🔬💫

Talking to Marburgers of all ages about the quirks of perception, & introducing the new DFG-funded cluster of excellence "The Adaptive Mind".

We showed Ames room, a color constancy demo, and hollow mask, size-weight & rubber hand illusions

10 years after I came as a participant in 2015, tonight I had the pleasure of giving an evening lecture at the Studienstiftung summer academy in the Swiss mountains ⛰️

My talk on brains-as-computers fell on open ears and there were 45 min of super exciting questions. What a joy!

Well that was fun!

A big thank you @cognemo.bsky.social @rssmith.bsky.social @esterner.bsky.social & R. Maramotti for coming all the way to Würzburg and delivering amazing talks.

Bringing Active Inference down to empirical data is not an easy feat but today's symposium was really inspiring! 🤓

Are you a scientist who codes? 🐍

Fearing that your public repo might implode the moment someone looks at it?

Then ASPP 2025 this is *the* summer school for you!

Hands-on tutorials on collaborative code dev, code orga & sharing, testing, debugging, computer architecture..

The press release on the uni website has developed into 3 radio interviews!? 📻😅

I would have never expected that much public interest in this (super technical) project. Can recommend to work with uni press departments, really opened some cool windows for sci comm 📣

Participant behavior is captured well by Bayesian Causal Inference over time.

Qualitatively, our model reproduces psychometric functions and behavior.
Quantitatively, it outperforms competitor models such as forced fusion, forced integration, & individual bias only.

We built a Bayesian graphical network to capture the causal dynamics that underlie these perceptual decisions.

Main idea: if we caused it ourselves (internal cause), we process it less (compared to externally caused inputs).

Exp. 2: People move a lever with their hand, or their hand is moved passively by the lever. When introducing a short delay between movement & a video of the movement, people are less likely to perceive that delay during active movement.

We have data from 2 experiments:
Exp. 1: A vibratory probe is presented to the finger right before stroking over a structured surface. When probe + surface vibration match in frequency, ppl are less likely to perceive it - i.e. sensory attenuation.

Just out: Modelling sensory attenuation as Bayesian Causal Inference across two datasets.

If you are interested in cool tactile/ proprioceptive experiments and Bayesian graphical networks, please check it out!

As I am on my final DB commute of 2024 (extra special w/ a juicy 2h delay ❤️‍🔥), I'm ready to share the artwork that I made while waiting for trains this year.

Also check out my playlist of train-themed songs (my previous DB delay project) & lmk if I missed any:

I received Charité's Robert Koch Dissertation Award for my thesis on sensory processing in psychosis last week 🎉

Deeply grateful for this recognition & my village supporting me all the way.
