I started out making the core gameplay happen with just imgui as a visualization. So for a good few months it just existed in a 2D placeholder UI. There are a few larger libraries involved (eastl, fmod, glm) and some more smaller ones, so not quite handmade but still very much custom.

Apart from the renderer, which I build as a dll, the game practically is the engine. So I didn't start writing anything general purpose. This thing can really just do this one game. Made it with the goal of super low input to audio latency no matter the framerate.

to be fair it's the kind of workaround that's more of a side-effect rather than an obvious "click this button to solve all your problems". Been on Live since 2009 and never knew it would do that.
