On this day in 1920: Noel Neill—best remembered for her role as Lois Lane in the 𝘈𝘥𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯 TV series—is born in Minneapolis (d. 2016)

Over her 76-year career, Neill appeared in 80+ films and TV shows. During WWII, she was a popular pin-up model, second only to Betty Grable among GIs.
The image features actress, singer, and model Noel Neill (1920 – 2016) in a promotional, pin-up style photograph from the 1940s. She’s wearing a plaid, two piece wrapped skirt ensemble with matching shawl, and is smiling brightly toward the horizon at camera right. With one hand resting on her hip, she is leaning back on the wall of a paneled patio, her left leg exposed to mid-thigh by the split cut of her skirt. Ms. Neill is best known for being the first actress to play the character Lois Lane on screen in the 1948 film serial 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯, and the subsequent 1950s television series 𝘈𝘥𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯. Neill was signed to a contract with Paramount in 1943 and appeared in numerous films, including westerns and the 𝘛𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘈𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘴 series, before her iconic role as Lois Lane. Over a career spanning 76 years, she appeared in more than 80 films and television shows. The photo showcases her modeling career during the WWII era, a time when she was a wildly popular pin-up girl (second only to Betty Grable in popularity among GIs). In 2010, the city of Metropolis, Illinois honored her 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯 legacy with a statue of Lois Lane modeled in her likeness.

Grammy-winning reggae artist Jimmy Cliff has left us. He was 81 years old.

At the time of his passing Cliff was the only living #reggae musician bestowed with Jamaica’s Order of Merit. Along with Bob Marley, he is one of only two Jamaican artists to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
