Interesting aspect of this one: Trump had argued his decisions on the Guard were effectively unreviewable by the courts. Apparently, SCOTUS isn’t quite ready to put itself completely out of business.

So I have the cover story in next month's TNR.

I interviewed the heads of police groups; immigration defense attorneys, ex-judges and ex-prosecutors; former DOJ and DHS officials, and the former head of Border Patrol.

They're all horrified at what we've seen, and they all fear what's coming.
Trump’s Immigration Nightmare: It Is Happening Here
With astonishing speed, the administration has toppled the most cherished pillars of a free society. And the experts agree: It’s all going to get much, much worse.

Ötzi and a 45,000-year-old Siberian were both infected with a cancer-causing strain of HPV.
This is fascinating, and a reminder that we have a vaccine that *prevents cancer* and everyone eligible should get it.
Two ancient humans, including famed ‘Iceman,’ had cancer-causing virus
Findings from ancient DNA may shed light on HPV’s history in our species

NEW: last night, the US govt launched an assault on the ‘global censorship industrial complex’, aka European tech researchers/campaigners.

It’s a deeply chilling move & speaks as to why we need international solidarity more than ever.

A win! A judge in Oregon ruled that the Trump administration may not withhold emergency preparedness funding from states that declined to submit updated population counts accounting for deportations, because population estimates are the responsibility of the U.S. Census Bureau; not the states.

What are we going to do?
Ask yourself: If Donald Trump was a Russian asset, what would he be doing differently?

If your answer is “nothing,” then ask yourself this:

If the US President is a Russian asset, what should *I* be doing differently?
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Vladimir Putin is the one who picked Steve Witkoff to be Trump's special envoy to Russia. Why would anyone think this is not a red flag?

What we’re being told is that a guy who is an adjudicated rapist, who was credibly accused of sexual assault by dozens of women, who paid hush money to a porn star, who cheated on all his wives, who is mentioned hundreds of times in the Epstein files, couldn’t possibly be a sexual predator.

Gotta say, as a survivor, I’m not super loving this thing where the Department of Justice is running a cover-up of evidence the President sexually abused minors.

Seems like a good day to remind everyone that Trump has sued over jokes, tweets, interviews, and news articles but not once over any of the countless accusations of child rape. — That silence says everything.

This is sinister. If you're wondering why so many people don't report sexual assault, this is why.
jesus the Palm Beach Police really sought arrest warrants against underage Epstein victims for coming forward and cooperating, and (purported) admitting to crimes, and it caused the victims to become uncooperative with the federal investigation

honestly unbelievable how bad this is, because it won't happen, but it will detrail naval procurement for the third time in as many decades. First we had the failure of the rumsfeld era DD(X)/CG(X)/LCS architecture and then we slammed face first into sequester cuts and now this
the golden fleet stuff genuinely makes me vibrate with anger

There are 78 Burke-class destroyers and we're planning to build 99. They say they're going to build "20-25" Trump-class thingys instead of the Burke's replacement.

Taking them at their word, that's a 75% reduction in surface combatant numbers.

Congratulations navalists, you played yourself.
this is just insane

Much easier to issue these kinds of decisions when the Trump administration is down. That's why you got to keep pounding them when they're down. *This* is when you run up the score.

What a flood of messages to wake up to.

It's not the dumbest idea I've ever seen, and it's not a battleship, but there's definitely a few people in NAVSEA crying over those renders.

Naming it the Trump class is everything I expected and less. But, I'll believe it when they build it.
