I have been birding for many years but today I witnessed something never seen before - a male blackbird essentially “lekking” to a rival. In a passable impression of a black grouse, his tail fanned up and out like a drawbridge and he mantled his wings, gaped and hissed - interesting stuff!!

Had two long walks in the Strid woods - very good numbers of singing Pied Flys, Redstarts present in small numbers but sadly no audible cues to suggest any Wood Warblers present

Looking for some help with a goose ID at Wheldrake this morning - a flock of Pink-foots came in with a White-fronted, but on reviewing the photo wonder whether there is a Bean Goose too?

@yorkbirding.bsky.social This one had me completely fooled with perfect sparrowhawk manoeuvres along a hedgerow, before landing on it!
