Proof we were here but more tangible more physical like a voice recording which seems more real than a photo.
Even if it’s something that only another nerd will find.

When I took the top off, I could see the hard drive platters, and right on top was the clear impression of her father’s fingerprint.
So a nice little moment.
A connection.
I was thinking that even when we leave the world we leave something.
Even if it’s locked in a metaphorical box of memories.

I noticed that all of the screws were off the cover plate except for two which hint that somebody was having problems with the drive enough to open it, and just decided to leave only two screws in to make it easier to get in and out. I got out the ifixit set.

Today I was looking in the box of old computer stuff specifically at a huge 9lb Maxtor 300 MB scsi drive. Her Dad was into Next so I’m keen on imaging the drives contents using bluesSCSI or some other emulator. The Internet describes this drive specifically as the default hard drive for a next cube.

We spoke by phone and she asked if I wanted an apple II and some other stuff so of course, I said sure. I used an Apple II in college but don’t have one and still have all my old floppy diskettes which truly are “floppies” the bendable larger 5 1/4” disks where the name came from.

A friend of mine was walking with a friend who told her that her father had passed away and left a whole big pile of computer stuff. She heard the word Apple so she suggested my name.

My twitter number is under 500k. Joined in 07. The absolute cesspool it’s become is nothing less than a disaster worthy of government intervention. Oh wait. He gutted the govt. if you’re not concerned. Hell freaked out is more appropriate. you’re asleep.

What’s the German word for that sadness from all the way back when you were a kid leaving at the end of vacation or a friend moving or heading home after visiting your grandparents but you’re moving data to a new iPhone and you already miss your old one?

Predatory lending. Business regulation. Safety net. Retirement. Government lobbyists. Billionaire. Tax cuts. We tune out to issues like children zoning out while their parents discuss their future in front of them. No one replaced Ralph fucking Nader. Driverless cars but it’s a democracy.

Can you imagine the audacity the stupidity the science fiction-ness of it? The belief that business function is to provide stability to the individuals in a society. Business has always believed people living on wages to be a nice to have but unnecessary byproduct of the main hideous goal.

I’ve always felt part of the acceptance of every business’ bureaucracy and red tape is the fact that people get to go home at the end of the day to a house with paid bills and food on the table, that’s the ultimate goal of business not to scoop up all the money and sit on top of it in a giant pile.

The shooting in Manhattan of a human being and the subsequent wave of comments, jokes, trash-talking to me illustrates the firm grip of disassociation on the Internet. It’s not bringing us together with empathy. It’s TV. He’s not a human being. He is a healthcare proxy.
