I realize no one follows me for opera hot takes . . . BUT . . .

For everyone in the Bay Area, the Monkey King @sfopera.bsky.social is lush, gorgeous, goosebump-giving and funny. Killer costumes, puppets & performances. Story based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. 2 thumbs up

Doing some reading of 'We Talk, You Listen' (1970, Vine Deloria Jr.) and a lovely, striking thing is how clear and simple it is, in contrast to a lot of modern cultural criticism that is so filled with jargony academic terms you can't grasp the author's point

For a moment there it was extremely bewildering who and where was actually at risk. The official tsunami.gov map was so broad as to be absurd. I had lots of friends calling and texting wondering if they should leave their areas, even some who live in the hills

This is much more helpful, but found via social media and couldn't find equiv for my area of North Bay

This from tsunami.gov is basically insane. Surely this entire area couldn't have been at risk of inundation, even before we know what type of earthquake it was

Also how the National Weather Service put it!
