While I also make large tips, I believe that voting, and otherwise supporting a democrat who will attempt to raise the minimum wage is more likely to improve the waiter’s life than my tip that is less than an hour’s living wage.

If you are the real Talib Kweli, I respect that you have more power to move politicians to work toward justice than I ever will. As much as you can do, you can’t impeach, convict, remove the president. We have to move the politicians to do that. I know that is just the beginning.

Also.The political system was always terrible.Now it’s much worse. A responsible congress in the past 40 years could have used its power to improve the country. They participated in making it worse. It is much worse now. The opposition needs to work harder to turn it around.That’s what I’m saying

Sigh. A sewer system has pipes, cars have axles, and a political systems have politicians. Politics is the act of people interacting in the public sphere. If you’re in office or out of office political action is politics. I was not making a moral statement, I was describing mechanics.

Okay. Of course giving in to popular pressure is the definition of a politician in a democracy. The point is that just doing their job is not enough when the system itself is under attack.

Who said anything about kindness or creativity? The mechanics of government is manned by politicians. The ordinary work of politicians is necessary in ordinary times. So are mail delivery and sewers. But when the leadership is destroying the law we need something more than politicians.

No policy has ever been perfect but Medicare, Medicaid, social security, environmental regulations, the creation of national parks system, the establishment of public schools, etc are all the result of politicians doing policy. If you want universal healthcare politicians will have to do policy.
