Archivist. Book reader. Persistent.

I write down my thoughts about books here https://thinkaboutreading.wordpress.com/

I write other things here https://thesiftingwell.wordpress.com/
To give a flavour of each: Notebook is a modern almanac of psychedelic thoughts about life, nature and writing; 1983 is about family, community and the pursuit of freedom set in a Nottinghamshire coal mining village just before the world tilts. Both will bring warmth to your winter.

Now's the time to get a Mill subscription, by the way. For your first 2 months, you can pay what you want, including nothing, to read its reporting.
You've got 6 days left to take up this offer.

I look after the archive of the Oldham Evening Chronicle. We've recently done some engagement work that shows how much Oldham residents miss it - primarily the authenticity & trustworthiness of its reporting, but also its connection to the communities of Oldham.

That's all, until the next time I remember I'm on here and decide to add to the chatter.

My last read was In Case of Loss by Lutz Seiler, published by @andotherstories.bsky.social

Seiler is a poet, but these are essays about landscape and place that draw on his East German childhood and post-reunification adulthood.

In Case of Loss is a collection of essays by Lutz Seiler, a German writer best known as a poet. It contains the kind of writing that grabs me completely from the off and makes me wonder how some wr…

Then there was Local Haunts, collected non-fiction by the always thought-provoking Adam Scovell also from @influxpress.bsky.social

It's an exploration of place and the ghosts of narrative art that haunt the physical landscape.

I only know 11 of the titles (I dispute the picture for one of them) and have had to rely on pun deciphering for another one. I'll be visiting the annual thread on the Money Saving Expert forum for the rest later 😔

It's entirely in character for her. You can't pin a woman like that down. She's my new role model.
