Thank you! After doing some digging I think you're right & these are not C. lutenscens. But I'm now unsure if they are C. tubaeformis. The image on the right I believe is that species or the PNW species Michael Kuo references here:

Left was yesterday's find.

Sorry, I now realize I've misidentified these! Same common name, different species.

All those are actually Craterellus lutescens, also choice, which can be found throughout N America & Europe.

I found Craterellus tubaeformis last year! They're found in the PNW & N Europe. Here's my post from then:
I believe these are Winter/Tube/Yellowfoot Chanterelles, Craterellus tubaeformis. One had deposited some spores on the cap of another and they were cream/white in coloring. I was in a bit of a rush so didn't get any "pretty" pictures.

Yeppers! I like to snack on these when I find them. You can candy them too!

The Winter Chanterelle's current status....turning to Parmesan in the dehydrator. Great score, even with leaving lots unpicked.

A few more angles of the same gorgeous gills along with some flush-mates.

Definitely a fantastic find! ☺️

So much fun, I love it!

It's gorgeous! I received a copy last year as a gift and showed it off to many a coworker who all loved it too. It's on my desk and I'll crack it open anytime I want to brighten my day.

Nice shot! Great composition focusing on the exposed pores, those super chunky boletes are fun to play around with your focus.

Beautiful shots! I love finding pinecone fungi. Nice find!

Right!? I was super excited when I came across them. Lots more older and battered, but these were perfect specimens!

In my experience there's usually a small window for them to send off spores with just a touch, so I was stoked when I realized these were prime!
Definitely one of my favorite types of spore interactions, 2nd to puffballs too!
Another is interacting with the Helvella genus & light.
Go spores go!

A few more shots of the likely Cinnamon Webcap, Cortinarius cinnamomeus.

Right? It's definitely one of the best out there for helping ID species on our side of the continent.
November 20, 2025 at 2:51 AM
When infected by Hypomyces cervinigenus it can be a bit difficult to positively ID, especially when it fully covers the cap. Occasionally I'll find more mature infections with a light orangy coloration to them, which is fun! ☺️

I've found this key to be useful: www.mushroomexpert.com/helvella.html
