clique was such a multi-format all-star for so long, i wouldn't be surprised if we got a callback in lorwyn eclipsed. something like "vendilion grove" with three flowers growing in a wooded area.

it's wild that the three of them have never been featured on any cards outside of their own legendary creature. the ending of their story is so incredibly depressing.

as with most things (like land count) numbers are not the only factor. a deck that draws more cards will benefit more from cost reducers. drawing 1 card each turn you likely don't want medallions outside of mono-color. things like cloud key want ~30% hits. monuments have triggers that can be useful.

the fact that one of magic's mascots is all about getting lost and the other is all about knowing the way creates such a wonderful symmetry.

i also want to give a shout-out to john tedrick who i have been following closely since he contributed his first piece to magic and i'm consistently impressed by the quality of his work.
he even gets to illustrate things that aren't reptilian sometimes!

i also think the siege cycle has some incredible illustrations but i'm not sure the card size serves them well. i think that if you blew these up to a larger size it would be much more obvious how impressive a lot of these complex scenes are.

i love the art direction given to the clan showcase cards in tdm. the dramatic lighting and softly rendered forms look so so good against the black framing elements, but it is hard for me to say how much credit to give the design components.
it's possible that isolated one of these is my actual #1.

tough question, i think for best art i've gotta go with the borderless tannuk. i love the texture and it immediately sold me on the edge of eternities setting and concept.
i would give captain howler and eshki dragonclaw runnner-up status tho. i'll throw in the graffiti riptide to round out the 4.
