Looks like the bottom landing was removed during the 1950’s renovation that put in a dentist’s office at the front of the house.

Sometimes air leakage occurs where you wouldn’t expect it. We used smoke tests and IR cameras with the house under slight depressurization.
We were brought in after construction to develop a remediation strategy to get below NY State energy code requirement of 3 ACH50. Passive House is 0.6

IR camera showing huge amounts of air leakage during our testing today.
Much easier to avoid during design and construction than afterwards when the building is uncomfortable.

You can see the hot air coming into the house at the window sill with an IR camera. Also how warm the frames are.
If this house had been designed and built to the Passive House standard, the client wouldn’t have had to hire us to remediate.
